About Me

underdog golf blogWhat the Heck?!

Too often in life I’ve heard people near and dear to me as well as complete strangers complain about the quality of their lives. Whether it’s their jobs, the amount they travel or the impact on the world they think they are or aren’t making, they feel stuck. It seems as though they feel cheated that they aren’t living their dream lives pursuing the goals they’ve always wanted to pursue. I’ve felt like this myself time and time again…so I decided to do something about.

My name is Patrick Alcoke (pronounced al-coke) and I will qualify for the U.S. Open Golf Championship by my 31st birthday. I turn 28 in June so this gives me three years. I am your average beginner level golfer that used to play when I was younger and has fallen in love with the game after starting to play again earlier this year. I am saying no to my fears that tell me I can’t accomplish this goal and just going for it. I have been told “Go for it!” by some and “You’re out of your mind!” by others. I’m embracing it all, the believers and the naysayers. And the best part is I’m going to document the whole thing. I’ll be posting updates on my game and where it’s at, what I’m learning and how I’m playing. I’ll be sharing lessons and tips I learn along the way as well as highlighting some of the experiences I have and the people I meet.  Everyone reading will have an inside look at what I’m going through on this journey and be with me when I inevitably succeed or fall flat on my face…hopefully the former.

I’m obviously doing this in part for me because it is a personal goal I’ve drawn up. But I also what to show others reading that if you want something in life go for it. Live your life rather than just get through it. Fear is an inhibitor that often cripples people into playing it safe in life rather than going for what they truly want.
